Tuition and Fees

Signature Card accounts are not authorized for "Tuition and Fees" payments at any BYU Cashier location.  "Tuition and Fees" include class fees, student loans, health center fees and insurance, and traffic and parking fees.

Billing and Customer Rights

This notice contains important information about the cardholder's rights and Signature Card Service's responsibilities under the Federal Electronic Funds Transfer Act. In order to preserve rights under this act the cardholder must notify Signature Card Services of any clerk, billing or statement error within sixty days of the date when the error appeared on the cardholder's account. The cardholder may contact Signature Card Services in writing at any time or call/visit Signature Card Services during regular office hours: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, at 801-422-3866, 2310 WSC, Provo UT, 84602.

Brigham Young University reserves the right to set your account balance to a negative amount under certain conditions. Brigham Young University also reserves the right to determine the order that plans will be charged.

Lost Cards

If the cardholder loses the ID card, he or she should report the card lost immediately by logging into MyBYU and selecting the Signature Card and Meal Plans, Miscellaneous link. Then deactivate the card.  This will protect the cardholder's account from unauthorized users. Failure to notify Signature Card Services within two business days may increase the cardholder's liability for unauthorized transactions.

Closing Accounts

Money deposited in a Signature Card account may be used for goods and services at locations displaying the BYU Signature Card logo. Signature Card balances transfer from semester to semester; money does not get removed or expire from your account. However, Signature Card Services reserves the right to close an account after six months of inactivity. Please see Inactive Accounts below.

The Signature Card account is not a demand deposit account like a savings or checking account. Money may be withdrawn from a Signature Card account for emergency purposes only. There is a $10 processing fee for this type of transaction. All withdrawals are distributed by university check thru US mail.  The withdrawal process takes 2 to 3 weeks on average. Withdrawal requests are processed at 2310 WSC.

There is a $10 processing fee to refund unused balances at the time when a Signature card account is closed. Cardholder's are encouraged to spend the remaining balance in their account to avoid the check processing fee.

Signature Card Withdrawal

The Signature Card account is not a demand account like a checking account. Money deposited into a Signature Card account purchases credit which may be redeemed for services. Any withdrawal of funds from the account will be subject to a $10.00 processing fee. Closing or emergency cash withdrawals from the Signature Card account will be limited to one weekly withdrawal with a maximum amount of $300.00. All withdrawals are distributed by university check thru US mail.  The withdrawal process takes 2 to 3 weeks on average. Withdrawal requests are processed at 2310 WSC.

Inactive Accounts

Signature Card Services reserves the right to close an account after six months of inactivity. Signature Card Services reserves the right to charge a $5 service fee for each additional month a closed account remains inactive, or until the account balance reaches $0. This is not standard practice, but may be applied at any time, for any purpose.  Patrons may contact Signature Card Services to reopen their accounts.

Meal Plan Transactions

At Dining Services' locations contracted meal plans are automatically assessed first. If sufficient funds are not available in a contracted meal plan to satisfy a transaction, the system will automatically cascade to the Signature Card account. Following automatic cascading if an account still does not have sufficient funds to complete the transaction, the remaining balance will need to be paid with cash, check, credit, or debit card.

If you have a question about a meal plan transaction, contact Signature Card Services, 801-422-3866, signature_card@byu.edu, 2310 WSC.  For questions about meal plan policies, purchases, changes, or cancelations contact the Meal Plan Office, see below.

Account Privacy

The FERPA act protects a student's privacy interests in educational records. These records include any records directly related to a student and maintained by BYU unless specifically exempted by the act. Account information can only be given to the account holder unless the following exceptions apply.

1. A parent demonstrates that the student is claimed as a dependent for federal tax purposes.

2. We have received written consent from the account holder authorizing someone else to access their account information.

a

When a parent deposits funds or purchases a meal plan for a student, this is considered a gift to the student - similar to giving a gift card.  Making a deposit or a purchase for a student does not entitle a parent to request information or make changes to a student's Signature card account or meal plan - we must have dependent status confirmation (1.) or written consent (2.) on file.
