ID Card General Information

a
As of July 1, 2009:
a
- Only individuals affiliated with BYU will receive an ID card
a
- Your primary university role will appear on the face of your ID card along with an expiration date: Student, Faculty, Employee, or Affiliate (spouses, dependents, contractors, etc.)
a
- You now have the option to print your *preferred first name on your ID card
a
*The preferred name is intended to be a less-formal name by which you are commonly known. If the ID Center determines your preferred name is silly or inappropriate you will not be issed an ID card until you have changed your preferred name. Changing an inappropriate preferred name takes one business day and will incur a $10 re-printing fee.

Why the change?
a
The ID card was changed to better identify holders as current members of the campus community. The card holder's printed role, recent photo, and the card's expiration date will immediately identify an individual as a university faculty member, employee, student, or affiliate.
a
I have an old ID card (doesn't show my role or an expiration date) - does it still work?
a
No. Service Areas and Departments no longer accept old ID cards. Please bring your old card to the ID Center, 2310 WSC.

a
Will I have to take a new picture when replacing a lost or stolen card?
a
Yes. The ID Center is required to take a new photo every time an ID card is printed. This means you will need to meet Dress and Grooming Standards every time you replace your ID card. See our 'More About Your Card' page for more information on your ID picture.

Service Areas and Departments
a
While the role printed on an ID card is accurate when the card is printed, all departments and service areas should continue to check the university database for current role and entitlements by swiping the ID card or entering the ID number.
